FAW Besturn B70
The expansion of Chinese automakers into the Russian market is expanding from year to year. In 2013, the list of “motorists” from the Middle Kingdom was replenished with the mid-size D-class sedan FAW Besturn B70. The debut of the model took place in 2006, and three years later it underwent a slight restyling. In 2011, the car underwent significant changes. The latest model upgrade was made in 2012. In a word, the car has already managed to make some noise in the domestic market of China, now the manufacturer declares its desire to conquer the hearts of Russian motorists.
Like the Besturn B50, the Besturn B70 is built on the platform of the first generation Mazda 6. Its front suspension uses McPherson struts, and a torsion beam is installed at the rear. However, in order for the chassis to meet modern requirements, the engineers of the Chinese company seriously upgraded it, but the length of the wheelbase remained the same – 2675 mm. But the overall dimensions of the car are different from their immediate family. So, the length of the Besturn B70 is 4729 mm, which is 13 cm longer than the B50, and only slightly less than the first generation Mazda 6. As for the width, the B70 has it equal to 1782 mm, and the height of the car is 1465 mm. Ground clearance – 148 mm. The equipped weight of the sedan, depending on the configuration, is 1405 or 1440 kg. It remains only to add that the luggage compartment of the Besturn B70 is 480 liters, and the gas tank holds a decent fuel reserve of 64 liters.
Assistance in the design of the exterior of the Chinese was rendered by the famous Italian workshop Italdesign. The car looks solid and modern, despite the simplicity and conciseness of the lines. Large headlamps, a large forward radiator grille protruding forward decorated with five crossbars and dressed in chrome surrounds, a powerful bumper with additional slots of air intakes and round fog lights. The hood of a sedan with powerful longitudinal stampings looks harmoniously and courageously. The sidewalls of the body are decorated with moderately swollen wheel arches. Large, properly shaped doorways, a high and flat roof, an almost vertical rear pillar will provide a comfortable fit for passengers in the cabin. The stern of the sedan looks no less extravagant and solid thanks to the large and stylish lamps of the side lights, the compact trunk lid and the powerful bumper with strict outlines.
The salon offers two-tone interior decoration. Finishing materials of decent quality, fitting elements at the proper level. Thoroughly thought-out interior space of the car provides maximum comfort to front and rear passengers. The high ceiling and wide legroom allow people of absolutely any complexion and height to comfortably fit in the Besturn B70 saloon.
The main control of car systems is focused on the touch screen (option), but some especially popular functions are duplicated by the buttons of the multi-function steering wheel. A multi-function steering wheel with an integrated airbag, manufactured using special alloys, is lightweight, making driving easier and easier. In this case, the steering wheel is adjustable in several directions: the range of adjustment of the steering wheel on the reach is about 45 mm, in height – about 55 mm.
Besturn B70 is equipped with a variable power steering. When driving at high speed, the force required to rotate the steering wheel increases, which allows the driver to completely control the car and accurately feel the trajectory of rotation. When driving at low speed – for example, in a parking lot – the steering wheel rotates easily and almost effortlessly.
The Besturn B70 has no choice of engine. The only power unit available for the sedan was the CA4GD1 gasoline four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters. This power plant, equipped with distributed fuel injection and a 16-valve timing, is capable of delivering about 147 hp. power (108 kW) and no more than 183 Nm of torque. The engine is fully compliant with Euro-4 and is able to accelerate Besturn B70 to a maximum of 200 km / h. As for the dynamics of acceleration, the starting acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h will take about 11 or 12 seconds, depending on the type of gearbox installed. The motor can be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, or with a 6-band “automatic”. With a manual transmission, the sedan demonstrates not only the best acceleration dynamics, but also greater fuel economy, although this indicator is not so much different: 8.2 liters and 8.3 liters per 100 km, respectively.
As befits a D-class sedan, the FAW Besturn B70 has a very decent suspension. In front, the Chinese developers used an independent design with double wishbones, and in the rear they preferred to use an E-type multi-link layout. Disc brakes are installed on all wheels.
