Ferrari F 360 Modena

The most popular and most affordable Ferrari car was the F360 Modena, which got its name in honor of the city where Enzo Ferrari was born. This sports rear-wheel drive 2-seater coupe was first introduced in Geneva on March 9, 1999 as a successor to the most popular F355 at the time. Subsequently, the F360 share in the production of all manufactured Ferrari cars began to make up 2/3, it was produced from April 1999 to October 2004. The Ferrari 360 Modena was replaced in 2005 by the F430.

In addition to Modena, there are also other versions with this index: the F360 Challenge Stradale (F360 CS) and the F360 Spider convertible, equipped with a top that automatically folds in 20 seconds and, in addition to the weight, is practically no different from the base model. 3 more modifications were created to participate in races: F360 GT, F360 GT-C and F360 Challenge. As a wedding gift from Ferrari to its president, the F360 Barchetta was made and presented in a single copy.

The Ferrari 360 Modena has undergone several structural improvements, each time becoming more and more perfect, although it has practically not changed in appearance, which, of course, is a significant merit of the Pininfarina body shop, which is a traditional partner of Ferrari and initially set the highest level of design. The exterior of the F360 Modena is swift and streamlined at the same time. Aerodynamics brought to the peak of perfection, which allowed to improve the dynamic performance of the machine.

At the heart of the Ferrari Modena design is a load-bearing, all-aluminum chassis with 40% increased stiffness and 28% lower weight compared to the F355, made in partnership with Alcoa. The distribution of weight along the axes is 42:58%. In addition, structural components are used, which are usually used in Formula 1 cars. In the front and rear bumpers of the Ferrari 360 Modena there are holes interconnected; at high speeds, the air flow passing through them presses the car against the road. Dimensions of the model are 4480/1920/1210 mm with a base of 2600 mm and a track of 1669/1617 mm. The curb weight is 1400 kg. Trunk volume 220 l.

Modena is equipped with a choice of one of two driving modes: “sports” and “road”. To do this, just press the button that controls the electronics – the ASR system that holds the car and does not allow the driver to lose control of the car. One kind of steel gear knob, moving in a shiny steel wings, will awe the fan of this brand. The set of installed equipment and the offered options is not inferior to the “ordinary” expensive cars and is limited only by the owner’s imagination.

The V8 engine with 5 valves per cylinder, a dohc gas distribution system and a volume of 3,586 liters has a capacity of 400 hp at 8500 rpm and a torque of 372 Nm at 4750 rpm. Acceleration to hundreds takes 4.5 s, top speed reaches 295 km / h. The average consumption of AI-98 gasoline is 17.9 liters per 100 km. This engine with reduced exhaust toxicity and noise is traditionally located in front of the rear axle. It is so aesthetic – red with silver pipes – that the designers also traditionally covered it with a transparent hood.

This engine has the highest torque in the range from 4750 to 7000 rpm. As a result, even at medium revolutions (3500-4000 rpm), the thrust is more than enough to make a breakthrough in fifth and sixth gears. After improvements in 2003, the engine power was raised to 425 hp, acceleration was improved by half a second, and the maximum speed was up to 300 km / h. This engine was equipped with the F360 Challenge Stradale (F360 CS).

Modena was equipped with a 6MKPP or a 6-speed semi-automatic electro-hydraulic gearbox F1A with gear shift “oars” under the steering wheel. Power steering and ABS as standard. Independent pendants, double wishbones front and rear. The brakes are fully disc, with a diameter of 330 mm. Tire size 275 / 40ZR18.

Model F360 Modena has earned popularity due to its excellent driving performance. Electronic systems that control the basic parameters of the engine, transmission and suspension, greatly facilitate the management. The optimal weight distribution solves almost all issues related to the behavior of the car on the road.

The version of the F360 Challenge Stradale (F360 CS) differed from the base Modena in dimensions of 4477/1922/1199 mm, reduced by 110 kg weight, carbon-fiber frame of seats and mirrors, 19-inch 225/35 air force wheels and ceramic brakes. Further options included, in order to further reduce weight, the replacement of leather upholstery with fabric upholstery, the rejection of power windows and mirrors. A direct competitor to this version is the Porsche GT3 RS.
