Alfa Romeo MiTo

For the first time, this front-wheel drive three-door hatchback was presented at the London Motor Show in 2008. MiTo is the smallest car in the Alfa Romeo lineup. Overall dimensions – 4.06 m in length, 1.72 – in width and 1.44 m – in height. The name of the car is made up of the first letters of the names of two Italian cities – Milan and Turin. In the first, a design was developed, and in the second there is a factory where the hatchback is produced. “Mito” is translated from Italian as “myth, legend.”

The car is based on the Fiat Grande Punto platform. That allowed to significantly reduce design costs. The exterior is designed in the style of the most powerful serial Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. The style of Competizione manifests itself literally in everything – the form of windows, optics (special attention is paid to diode taillights), the design of the front part, and even in color. The design of MiTo can be called stylish and elegant.

The interior was designed by Alfa Romeo Centro Stile. Convenience and ergonomics of the driver’s seat are at the forefront. High-quality materials of which the interior is made, and scrupulous attention to the development of details guarantee the quality of decoration in accordance with high European standards.

The proposed range of engines consists of three options: two gasoline engines of 1.4 liters. and diesel 1.6 liters. The most powerful turbocharged 1.4 in the lineup has a power of 155 hp. and accelerates the car to 100 km / h in 8 seconds. Diesel 1.6 JTDM – 120 hp and 9.9 s. to hundreds. The third engine, which in Alfa Romeo was called “Junior”, has a capacity of only 78 liters. from. and accelerates to hundreds in 12.3 s

The driver can choose one of three pre-programmed engine operating algorithms – Normal (city), Dynamic (sports), and All Weather (all-weather). At the Alfa Romeo MiTo, the D.N.A. system debuted, allowing you to change the car’s settings depending on the wishes of the driver or the traffic situation. In the “Dynamic” position, the steering wheel becomes sharper, the electronic differential lock Q2 Electronic is activated. The ESP stabilization system switches to a sports mode of operation: it allows light skidding and is triggered at the last moment, allowing you to go on the verge of a foul. The “All weather” position is recommended for use on slippery roads. In this case, the ESP insures the driver especially sensitively – a slight hint of skidding is enough and it takes effect. In addition, the operating algorithm of the VDS traction control system is changing, which in the “All weather” mode fires a little earlier, which reduces the likelihood that the wheels will bury, for example, in loose snow.

The suspension scheme of the Alfa Romeo MiTo is simple and unpretentious: independent with McPherson struts – at the front and semi-independent with a torsion beam – at the rear.

In Alfa Romeo MiTo much attention is paid to safety – seven airbags (two of which are multi-phase – Multistage) and double belt tensioners are installed. The model offers the most advanced electronic systems for dynamic control of vehicle movement: Vehicle Dynamic Control (which cannot be turned off) controls important functions such as: Hill Holder, drive (traction) control, emergency braking assistance (panic braking assistito), MSR for sliding adjustment downhill wheels, DST (Dynamic Steering Torque) system (steering wheel torque and electronic Q2.

In addition, MiTo has an ABS system, brake force distribution systems EBD, EBV, Traction control, ASR, traction control system DSC, ESP and AFU, which is responsible for emergency braking.

Alfa Romeo MiTo received headlights with a “Day Time Running Light” system, which when starting from the vehicle’s position automatically turns on side lights and taillights with LEDs that shine brighter than traditional lamps.

MiTo is ideally suited for urban conditions: the car copes with busy roads, deftly maneuvering in traffic jams, perfectly finds places in the most popular and clogged parking lots.

In 2010, the MiTo underwent a minor update – there was a 6 TCT transmission (automatic transmission with two clutch discs) and a Blue & Me-TomTom system (Bluetooth and navigation).

In the fall of 2013 in Frankfurt, Alfa Romeo introduced the updated MiTo 2014 model year hatchback. Changes affected the exterior, interior and technical part.

The exterior of the global changes has not undergone, only minor touches have modernized the image. The front restyled version of MiTo differs from the previous chrome trim of the radiator grille. This is a deliberate reference to the older Giulietta, made to strengthen family resemblance. Headlamps received polished edging. A new enamel color for painting the body was added – anthracite gray (plus ten options for the proposed colors). That’s all the changes in the exterior of the updated 2014 Alfa Romeo MiTo.
