Alfa Romeo Spider
Alfa Romeo Spider – a luxury front-wheel drive sports convertible class “grand tourism”, a joint development with Pininfarina.
This model was first shown in 1994 in Paris. The two-seater Spider with a reclining padded top follows the basic design elements of the Alfa Romeo GTV. The exterior design of the car is made in a traditionally dynamic style: a corporate triangular shield with chrome trim; body-colored bumpers and side spoilers; wedge-shaped body with smooth, deep lines; large doorway; semi-elliptical headlights; a slight rise in the rear wheel area, turning into a slightly raised rear of the body. The folding top is electrically powered and is controlled by a button on the center console. Spider is equipped with a regular-size spare wheel, which can be replaced by a recomplector for wheel repair and an electric compressor if desired, which allows you to increase the boot volume by 45 liters.
The standard equipment includes: leather trim, power windows (automatic on the driver’s side), exterior mirrors with electric drive and heating, central locking, control system for checking the closing of doors and trunk, “smoker package”. In addition, special equipment includes Momo leather trim in red or blue.
Safety is determined by the body structure itself: under the hood lining there is an internal frame that provides the necessary rigidity and strength. The design is made of composite KMS material, the components of which are polystyrene resin and carbon fiber. The frame and lining are connected to each other by epoxy resin.
The folding top of the Spider model is fastened with five brackets to an aluminum frame; when lowering the front, the front brackets fit snugly on the upper part of the windshield, providing good aerodynamics. The material of the removable top itself has two layers: external (from refractory fabric), internal, with excellent soundproofing properties.
Cars are equipped as standard with safety belts with pretensioners and a driver airbag, electronic speed limiter.
Alfa Romeo Spider cars are equipped with servo-assisted disc brakes and four-channel ABS from Bosch. These are front-wheel drive models with transverse gasoline and diesel engines (2 spark plugs on cyl. – twin spark) and only with manual gearboxes. Motors with a working volume of 1.8-3.0 liters with a capacity of 144-202 hp
Modernization in 2001 affected mainly power units, the number of which was reduced to 2. Basic versions are now equipped with 2.0-liter “fours” with a capacity of 150 hp, and more high-speed ones – with 3.0-liter engines of 220 hp.
In 2002, the advent of more powerful JTS engines with 165 hp. and the new 3.2-liter “six” in 250 hp Spider’s new bespoke equipment includes the Blaupunkt satellite radio navigation system with a map database media on CD-ROMs. An upscale audio system is offered with a 10-disc CD changer. The standard equipment includes two frontal airbags, as well as genuine leather upholstery using chromed metal.
In 2003, the model was restyled. The car received an updated exterior design and improved interior interior. Spider is an example of a typical Italian approach to the design of sports cars: expressive punching on the body and an oblique cut of the trunk. You can see right away – a car with style and character. It is noteworthy that on cars of this year, the soft top is devoid of an electric drive. Being almost the twin brother of the Alfa Romeo GTV, the Spider car, naturally, is endowed with similar technical characteristics – excellent maneuverability, ease of operation, environmental friendliness, comfort and safety. Equipped with Alfa Romeo Spider the same as the Alfa Romeo GTV engines – 2.0 TS, 2.0 JTS and 3.2 V6.
The debut of the sixth generation sports cabriolet Alfa Romeo Spider took place in 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show. The model immediately received the prestigious Convertible of the Year Award. Italian to the smallest detail, it is the result of the collaboration of the Alfa Romeo design center with two designers whose names serve as a symbol of Italian style around the world: Giugiaro and Pininfarina. The car received a stylish, but not artsy appearance, which perfectly expressed elegance and strength. A convenient driver’s seat and an abundance of avant-garde details in the interior mark the return of the legend. The car is not only beautiful, but also high-tech and sporty.
There are two engines, both gasoline, and each is already familiar with the 159 and Brera models: a four-cylinder (2.2 JTS, 185 hp) and a V-shaped “six” (3.2 liters, 260 hp) coming from Australia. The gearbox is only six-speed manual. Moreover, in a modification with a V6 engine, the car is also equipped with an all-wheel drive system.
