X1 – a compact five-seater crossover. Car production began at the Leipzig factory in Germany in October 2009. The entire process of designing a model, from setting technical specifications to the descent of the X1c conveyor, took only three years. BMW does not hide: when creating this car, the company’s designers proceeded from the fact that the crossover should appeal primarily to young people. The overall length of the X1, built on a 3-Series platform, is 4454 millimeters, and the width, height and wheelbase are 1798, 1545 and 2760 millimeters, respectively. At the same time, the novelty is about 110 millimeters shorter, 60 millimeters narrower and 140 millimeters lower than the BMW X3. Ground clearance is 194 mm.

The design is designed in the new corporate style of the company with a lot of curved lines and fancy sidewalls, consisting of deep reliefs and bent stampings. The bifurcated grille is the brand’s trademark. The luminous rims of the headlights are hidden under transparent caps. Daylight lamps are also provided. Bavarian style is continued by extended wings, a profiled hood, and muscular sides. In the front bumper placed an air intake of solid size. Bumpers, wheel arches and sills, as befits an all-terrain vehicle, are protected from possible damage by black overlays. And the bottom front and back cover silver metal plates.
The interior of the X1 will not disappoint connoisseurs of a stylish interior. The salon can be literally called elegant, comfortable and thoughtful. The center console is slightly turned towards the driver, the three-spoke steering wheel has a thickened rim, and a widescreen 8.8-inch display successfully displays the maps of the navigation system and displays an image of the rear view camera and other useful information in the upper part of the front panel. The iDrive multimedia controller located on the central tunnel allows you to quickly change various settings. In addition, only high-quality materials were used in the decoration, and the Hi-Fi Harman / Kardon-class speaker system complements the picture.

The trunk is not capable of boasting record sizes, but it pleases with a wide opening and a flat floor. The rear seatback with an adjustable angle of folding folds in the proportion of 40/20/20, while increasing the internal space of the luggage compartment from 420 liters to 1350 liters (maximum capacity). As an option, a panoramic glass roof with electric drive is offered.
The drive can be rear (such modifications are called sDrive) or full (xDrive). The engine range of the most compact crossover BMW includes five engines with an unconditional emphasis on the diesel family. The basic modifications were gasoline sDrive18i (150 hp) and diesel xDrive18d (143 hp). Most popular modification: two-liter diesel engine xDrive20d with a capacity of 177 hp The diesel modification completes the picture: xDrive23d with a 204 hp twin-turbo diesel four. The petrol version of the xDrive28i with a three-liter “six” has a power of 258 hp. Paired with engines, a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox is used. It is expected that the range of powertrains will be replenished.

The innovative potential is also manifested in equipping the BMW X1 models with the most advanced chassis systems, which include a double-hinged front suspension with push levers or an aluminum double-hinged front suspension with traction levers, as well as a five-lever lightweight steel rear suspension, high-precision steering, powerful brakes, and a system dynamic stability control with traction control system and, as an option, Performance Control system acting on the brakes for driving in a particularly dynamic style.
The X1 received high marks in all security categories, the highest level of these tests: five stars in the Euro NCAP tests. The car provides the highest level of active and passive safety. The body is made of new generation steel, which allows you to absorb impact energy in areas of controlled deformation and protect passengers. The basic equipment of the car includes three-point inertial seat belts at all places, front and side airbags, as well as airbags to protect the head, adaptive brake lights and daytime running lights. Xenon headlights, adaptive tilt headlights and a high beam headlight control system are available as options.
The updated 2018-2019 BMW X1 crossover made its debut at the April 2012 New York Auto Show. The new product can be distinguished from its predecessor by a different front bumper with silver details, an enlarged “nostrils” of the radiator grille, updated side sills and a modified rear bumper. The car received a different design of the headlights with LED lights and ring lights for day trips in combination with xenon headlights, as well as a new “fog lamp” border.
