The front-wheel drive crossover Brilliance V5 was introduced to the Russian market in March 2014. Automobile production using the large-assembly method was established at the facilities of the Derways plant in Cherkessk. In China, the Brilliance V5 began to be mass-produced at the end of 2011. Overall dimensions of the car are 4405 mm in length, 1800 mm in width and 1627 mm in height, wheelbase – 2630 mm. The gauge of the front wheels is 1544 mm, the gauge of the rear wheels is 1530 mm, the ground clearance (clearance) is 175 mm with the standard tires 225 / 55R17. The crossover weight in running order is from 1415 kg to 1455 kg, the fuel tank is designed for 55 liters of gasoline.
The appearance of the V5 model, according to the representatives of the brand, was created by Pininfarina specialists, which, however, did not affect its similarity with the BMW X1. The front of the body of the Chinese crossover with large headlights, under the glass of which lens optics and LED running lights are mounted, a false radiator grille in the form of an inverted trapezoid with rounded corners and rich chrome trim, a solid bumper with aerodynamic elements, foglights and a wide smile for lower air underlined by aluminum insert. But the back of the V5 model shows originality. Large ovals of marker lamps connected by a chrome-plated crossbeam, elegant stampings on the wings, a massive bumper with a wide skirt of unpainted plastic is complemented by a wide metal insert.
The salon meets the driver and passengers with hard budget plastic, but with a nice texture and original combinations (stylish inserts on the front panel, center console and door cards), fabric upholstery of the seats, minor flaws in ergonomics and the assembly of interior elements. The three-spoke steering wheel is adjustable only in height. The driver’s and front passenger’s seats have a flat pillow, but the backrest has bright side support.
In Russia, the car is presented in two trim levels – Comfort and Deluxe. The Comfort basic equipment includes two airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP and TCS, emergency braking systems, air conditioning, an audio system (radio, CD MP3, USB, AUX-IN with 4 speakers), power windows on all doors, parking sensors, roof rails. The richer Deluxe version, in addition to the standard equipment, receives foglights, electric power and heated mirrors, factory tinted windows, an electric sunroof, leather-trimmed steering wheel, 8 speakers for the audio system, keyless entry to the interior and a Start-Stop button to start the engine.
Under the hood, the Brilliance V5 engine is a 1.6-liter engine with 110 hp, producing 151 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The 4A92S engine is a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi and Chrysler. Among its features are an aluminum cylinder block weighing 19.8 kg, a gas distribution mechanism with a variable valve timing system (MIVEC – developed by Mitsubishi), as well as a fuel injection system developed by Bosch in partnership with SHANHAI. The engine is paired with both a 5-speed manual gearbox (JW5F18C), manufactured by the Guangzhou Housing Automotive Component Company based on the Toyota C50 box, and a 5-speed automatic 5F16S, developed by the Korean Hyundai-Powertech Corporation, which used the Mitsubishi design base. Acceleration to 100 km / h in a car with “mechanics” takes 11.9 seconds (13.9 with an “automatic”). The maximum speed is 178 km / h. Plus, the crossover is very economical, because according to the manufacturer it consumes 7.2 liters in a mixed driving mode with an automatic transmission and 6.9 liters with a mechanic.
As for the Brilliance V5 suspension, the front is an independent MacPherson type spring with anti-roll bars, and the rear is a semi-independent spring (beam) with anti-roll bars. The steering gear is equipped with an electric actuator.
According to the results of Chinese crash tests, C-NCAP for frontal and side impact Brilliance V5 was awarded the highest rating – 5 stars.
The Brilliance V5 will compete with models such as the Lifan X60, Chery Tiggo, Geely Emgrand X7 and Haima 7. The car warranty in Russia is 3 years or 100 thousand km, the service interval is 10 thousand km.
