Chevrolet Lacetti

The debut of the 5-door hatchback Lacetti took place in 2003 in South Korea, Europe saw the car much later. Production was established at the Gunsan plant on the west coast of South Korea. But many parts for Lacetti come from Europe. So, ABS is made by Bosch, airbags and catalysts – Siemens Automotive, automatic transmissions – ZF and Aisin Warner.

By the way, Lacetti is a name not entirely coined. It is derived from the Latin lacertus, which means “energetic, strong, youthful.”

Chevrolet Lacetti became the second model built on a completely new platform J200 (the first was a Nubira III sedan). This car is a characteristic representative of the golf class. Available in three body styles – sedan, hatchback and station wagon.

In general, the current Chevrolet Lacetti, which the Americans began to sell throughout the Old World, is actually a symbiosis of two Daewoo models – the latest generation Lacetti and Nubira. The station wagon model is just Nubira, and the sedan and five-door hatchback are Lacetti. But in appearance Chevrolet Lacetti has nothing to do with the Nubira / Lacetti, which appeared in 1997. Biodesign with its rounded shapes and flowing lines is a thing of the past. Now, at the forefront, on the contrary, are sharp edges.

Lacetti’s design was developed in Turin, at ItalDesign, under the direction of Giorgetto Giugiaro. The car looks quite dynamic, but not shocking. The almond-shaped headlights look fairly calm, but the car immediately “shoots” with aggressive rear optics, forward rear pillars, and magnificent 15-inch multi-spoke wheels. The more expensive SX and CDX trim levels also feature an elegant roof spoiler and fog lights. In each Lacetti body line, strength and power, endurance and stamina of character are felt.

Interior decoration Lacetti is also devoid of all kinds of frills, but it is very harmonious and modern. Take at least a multifunctional steering wheel with a thick, pleasant to the touch rim or lever of an “automatic machine” encrusted with a pseudo-tree. In the interior decoration, aluminum inserts are widely used. The same rims are framed by round airflow deflectors and appliances. Devices are easy to read, ergonomics of the driver’s seat at the proper level. In the basic SE configuration, the CD receiver is replaced by a small shelf. Only high-quality materials were used in the decoration, the fitting of all panels is as precise as possible, the light colors of the upholstery are consistent in one gamut, and thanks to this, the interior seems even more spacious. In all trim levels, the gearshift lever and steering wheel rim are trimmed with leather, and in the CDX version there are also seats. The tilt of the front seat cushion changes, and the steering wheel can be adjusted in two directions, so you can quickly and conveniently settle in the driver’s seat.

To rear passengers: it is comfortable on a deep sofa and there is a good supply of space above your head. And since the Chevrolet Lacetti base (2,600 mm) is one of the largest in the class, legroom is also enough. The luggage compartment impresses with an impressive volume, which can be increased by folding the back of the rear seat. In all trim levels, the gearshift lever and steering wheel rim are trimmed with leather, and in the CDX version there are also seats.

Speaking of the cabin, one can not help but say about its equipment. Lacetti flaunts a good list of basic equipment. Standard equipment for the SE includes air conditioning, power steering, front airbags, ABC, a height-adjustable driver’s seat and a CD radio. In the SX configuration, the car’s equipment is supplemented by a climate control system, side airbags for front passengers, fog lights, a case for driver’s glasses located on the ceiling panel above the door. For lovers of luxury there is a third grade – CDX. In addition to the above, it includes 15-inch wheels, sports front seats with pronounced lateral support, as well as an armrest with holders for glasses. In a word, Lacetti’s interior has everything to win the favor of Europeans who are accustomed to sound interiors.

Review at a good level. The rear head restraints almost do not obscure the plane of the rear window. Only in sharp turns do the front pillars fall into the field of view.

For Lacetti, only three petrol engines are available with a volume of 1.4 (93 hp), 1.6 (109 hp) and 1.8 liter (122 hp). The base 93-horsepower engine is paired with only a 5-speed manual gearbox. The other two are also offered a 4-band “automatic” (for the 1.6-liter Lacetti – manufactured by Aisin, and for the 1.8-liter – ZF).

The power unit with a capacity of 1.6 liters makes it easy to move off without gas and go quietly at low engine speeds. But for confident acceleration it is necessary to “twist” for 4000 rpm.

Four disc brakes slow Lacetti well. Even at high speeds, the car confidently holds the road – no deviations from the course. With increasing speed, the steering wheel becomes heavier, and in turns elastically resists turning.
